Committees & Working Groups

The Vice-Dean, Education & Community Engagement chairs or oversees several committees which bring together education and community engagement leaders from the Faculty’s six schools.

Education and Community Engagement Leadership Forum (ECELF)

ECELF brings together Associate Deans and Directors of the six schools as well as the heads of education and community engagement teams in the FMHS to exchange ideas, discuss cross-cutting issues and challenges, and share best practices. The Forum is advisory to the Vice-Dean. Topics such as community engagement and belonging, educational innovation, education scholarship, faculty enrichment and development, and interprofessional education are among those discussed at ECELF’s quarterly meetings.

ECELF has two standing subcommittees:

Health Professions Education (HPE)

The HPE subcommittee allows for additional discussion and exchange on issues specific to health professions education. HPE meets quarterly and provides an opportunity to share best practices in health professions education, to identify and collaborate on shared priorities, and to address common challenges including optimization of the university learning environment.

Representatives to University Committees (RUC)

Numerous FMHS faculty members sit on central university committees and participate in high-level discussions on topics ranging from university libraries to physical development to institution-wide policies affecting learners and teachers. To ensure that news or information emerging from these discussions that is relevant to the wider FMHS community is shared, the Vice-Dean has created a mechanism for FMHS committee representatives to communicate with one another and with the Vice-Dean and her team on an as-needs basis.

Education & Community Engagement (ECE) Operations Committee

The ECE Operations Committee supports the Vice-Dean in decision-making on matters related to the functioning of the Office of the Vice-Dean and the Community Engagement and Belonging (CEB) and Education Support, Enhancement, and Innovation (EdSEI) Hubs. Members include Directors and Associate Deans as well as administrative staff from all education teams within these hubs.

Clinical Education Leaders (CEL)

The School of Medicine Clinical Education Leaders (CEL) Forum is mandated to discuss and advise on matters related to education offered by clinical departments in the School of Medicine.

Chaired by the Vice-Dean, CEL allows leaders to engage and advise one another on matters related to medical education, including:

  • Competency-based medical education
  • Accreditation standards for UGME and PGME
  • Clinical supervision and the clinical learning and working environment
  • National initiatives in medical education
  • Educational innovation
  • Capacity building in medical education scholarship
  • Capacity building in medical education leadership
  • Graduate education offered by clinical departments
  • Continuing professional development, including faculty development

Members include education leads (e.g., Associate Chairs of Education) from the School of Medicine’s clinical departments, as well as the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education and the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.

Health Professions Education (HPE) Community Engagement & Belonging (CEB)

The HPE CEB Committee develops and supports initiatives aimed at increasing the participation of underrepresented populations in the FMHS’s health professional programs. The work is grounded within the framework provided by McGill’s Equity Office, including the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategic Plan, Action Plan to Address Anti-Black Racism, 52 Calls to Action, and Accessibility Strategy and aligned with the FMHS’ Strategic Plan and EDI Working Group report.

HPE CEB’s role is to enhance outreach, recruitment, and support for learners (and potential learners) from underrepresented communities through knowledge exchange, continuous quality improvement, and coordination of efforts across health professional Schools and programs. HPE CEB is chaired by an FMHS faculty member and includes faculty and students from the health profession programs as well as community members with relevant experience and commitment to the committee’s mandate.
