AGGP Phase II: An integrated socio-economic and biophysical framework for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions under agricultural water management systems in Eastern Canada 

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

The Agricultural Greenhouse Gases Program (AGGP) supports projects that will create technologies, practices and processes that can be adopted by farmers to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These projects will also help farmers increase their understanding of GHG emissions. Pictures available here.


Finite element analysis of perforations for high density polyethylene pipes used in agricultural land drainage


This research uses finite element analysis to analyse the influence of perforations on the performance of buried plastic pipes used for agricultural tile drains. The main research objective is to establish a design rationale for specifying perforations, which will include both structural and hydraulic functions of the buried high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes. Soil-Plant-Water Dynamics and Water Productivity Benefits of Subsurface Drip Irrigation

NSERC Discovery Grant

The focus is to design highly efficient irrigation and field drainage technologies which will reduce nutrient leaching and conserve water while increasing crop productivity and remaining adaptable in the face of climate change. Robust design criteria for subsurface drip irrigation and innovative use of crop stress parameters will be developed. Pictures available here.


Towards a better understanding of the soil-plant-atmosphere- water continuum

NSERC Research Tools and Instruments Grants

Accurate and precise measurements of nitrous oxide (N2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) will be coupled with other soil, water and plant-atmosphere parameters to provide a better understanding of their complex interactions and enable us to design water control systems which will conserve water, increase plant productivity, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions under intensive cropping.
