Materials Engineering (PhD)

Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Materials Engineering offered by the Department of Mining & Materials Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering is a research-intensive program that emphasizes fast-paced and experiential learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in original thinking, research design, and intellectual independence to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Unique Program Features

  • The Department has the lowest student-to-professor ratio within the Faculty of Engineering where students are supported and have access to state-of-the-art research and laboratory equipment;
  • Research and learning activities are conducted over the whole materials cycle from mineral processing and extraction, to advanced materials (including nano- and bio-materials), and materials recycling;
  • Faculty members have industrial connections which can help graduates land post-graduation jobs. In addition, many projects have industrial collaborators which will provide students with exposure to possible future employers.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
