Classics (M.A.)

Program Description

The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Classics offered by the Department of History and Classical Studies in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes in-depth and inquiry-based learning opportunities. The program’s objective is to equip students with skills in literature synthesis, critical thinking, writing to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

Unique Program Features

  • Aims to prepare students to enter doctoral programs in any of the related fields of classical studies;
  • This program is designed for students who are already highly proficient in ancient languages, have a strong foundation in classical studies, and can work independently;
  • Designed to be completed in three terms, though many students prefer to complete it in two years;
  • Classics was among the first disciplines taught at McGill College, established in 1834;
  • Awards and prizes are available for students and opportunities for students to join professors on conferences, study tours, and field projects.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
