Program Description
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Architecture program offered by the Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture in the Faculty of Engineering supports original interdisciplinary research in areas including the history and theory of the built environment, building technology, climate-conscious design, media and computation, urban studies, and spatial justice. With a commitment to fostering intellectual independence and promoting research excellence, the program prepares students for academic careers or leadership positions in areas such as curation, publication, and the building industry.

Unique Program Features
- The School has maintained a high engagement with funded research since the beginnings of our graduate research programs in 1947, offering advanced degrees in housing, architecture, material culture, community engagement, history and theory, and technology;
- Students benefit from access to the McGill Visual Arts Collection, Rare Books and Special Collections in the McGill Library, Osler Medical Library, the McCord Museum of Canadian History (houses the McGill University Archives), and The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The archives and exhibits of the Canadian Centre for Architecture and the Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales de Québec also offer grants and research opportunities.
