Cell Biology (M.Sc.)

Program Description

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Cell Biology (Thesis) offered by the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is a research-intensive program that provides rigorous training in the fundamental principles and cutting-edge approaches of cellular biology. Under the guidance of a faculty supervisor, students will design and execute an original research project, intended to develop their skills in literature review, critical thinking, and scientific communication. An interdisciplinary learning environment exposes students to projects and scientists beyond the Department, fostering a collaborative approach to cell biology research.

Keywords: cell biology, structural biology, quantitative biology, cell matrix biology/extracellular matrix, cryo-electron microscopy, membrane trafficking, multiscale 3D image, molecular genetics, cytoskeleton.

Unique Program Features

  • The Department has one of the largest and best-equipped electron microscope facilities in the world. There are currently four modern electron microscopes which include a Tecnai F20 and a Titan Krios;
  • The Department has a Harmonized Funding Policy to ensure that every graduate student in the Faculty will be paid adequately (e.g., guaranteed minimum funding package);
  • The Department hosts a seminar series featuring local and international experts in the field.
