McGill Deepens Collaboration with Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute and University of Delhi

During the 2025 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference in New Delhi, McGill deepened its ties with key partners.

In March 2025, McGill University reaffirmed its commitment to meaningful academic collaboration in India through the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) Bilateral Education Forum (SBEF) 2025 in New Delhi.

The meeting, held alongside the APAIE 2025 Conference and Exhibition, offered an opportunity to deepen ties with one of Canada’s key partners in academic exchange and research cooperation with India. Hosted this year by O.P. Jindal Global University on the theme of “Cultivating Global Citizens for the Future,” the conference convened over 2,500 higher education leaders from across the Asia Pacific and beyond.

Representing McGill, Graham Barber, Director of Global Engagement, met with SICI and its member institutions to explore concrete avenues for future collaboration in joint research, mobility programs, and capacity building initiatives. The discussion emphasized McGill’s support for sustainable and inclusive partnerships that reflect shared values in higher education.

“Shastri has long played a central role in strengthening Canada-India academic ties,” said Barber. “Our meeting reinforced McGill’s commitment to working together to support impactful scholarship and student opportunities.”

During his visit, Barber also held a high-level meeting with the University of Delhi, one of India’s most prestigious institutions. The discussion focused on deepening academic cooperation, with shared ambitions in research collaboration, faculty exchange, and student mobility forming the basis for future initiatives.

McGill’s engagements in India reflect its ongoing commitment to internationalization and to building bridges across cultures, disciplines, and institutions.
