Celebrating partnership with the Philippines

McGill University and the Philippines strengthen their bond through a generous donation supporting academic initiatives, cultural exchange, and global collaboration.

In a celebration of collaboration and cultural exchange, McGill University participated in a signing ceremony in Ottawa, Canada, as part of the event “Canada-Philippines Relations: Towards a Strategic Partnership.” This milestone commemorated the formalization of a donation agreement between McGill and the Office of Senate President Loren Legarda, facilitated by the Philippine Embassy in Canada and the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada.

The donation celebrates the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and the Philippines. It reflects a shared commitment to fostering cross-cultural collaboration and advancing Philippine studies internationally.

McGill extends its gratitude to Senator Loren Legarda for her visionary support and generosity. Special thanks are also extended to Ambassador Maria Andrelita S. Austria for her outstanding leadership and to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, led by President and CEO Jeff Nankivell, for their key role in organizing this event.

The signing ceremony highlighted the strong ties between the two countries and the shared desire to continue building bridges of understanding and collaboration.

McGill looks forward to deepening its connection with the Philippines and advancing transformative initiatives for a brighter, shared future.
