Remote Access to Virtual Machines

The GIC has 10 virtual machines available for remote connection. They are especially equipped for use with geospatial software, and anyone from the McGill community can connect to them. To do so, visit the AnyDesk website, where you can connect to the computers on a first-come-first-served basis. Once connected, you can reserve the computers for up to 6 hours at a time.

• Note, for remote access you need to be on the McGill network or use the McGill’s VPN before you connect to our computers.
  • For instructions on setting up the McGill VPN, click the link. Once clicked, you will be directed to a blank page. The information on this page is restricted to McGill users, so click Login in the top-right corner. Then, select and follow the installation guide for your operating system.
  • Once the VPN is installed, the VPN portal address is "vpn.mcgill.ca".
• If you are a Mac user you will need to download the Microsoft Remote Desktop app in order to connect to our Windows virtual machines.
