Macdonald alumna Stéphanie Naud heads to World Lumberjacking Championship

Published: 17 July 2025

The athlete began this sport at McGill University, the only school in Quebec to offer the opportunity to do logging as a sport.

Stéphanie Naud, FMT’14, BSc(AgEnvSc)’17, is representing Canada at the World Timber Sports Championships in Wisconsin from July 16–19.

Originally from Brigham, Quebec, Naud discovered competitive lumberjacking while studying at McGill. She joined the Mac campus woodsmen team with no prior experience using an axe—and now competes at the international level. In 2022, she set a world record in the “single buck” event, cutting through a log in just 24 seconds.

Balancing her career as an agricultural management consultant with elite training, Naud competes across North America and is one of few women on the pro circuit. She credits McGill and the Macdonald Campus loggersports team for launching her journey in this unique and demanding sport.

Good luck, Stéphanie!
