Current research:

Dr. Bertagnolli’s current research program focuses on elucidating mechanisms that can interrupt the formation of new blood vessels in the mother, placenta and growing fetus in pregnancies that are severely affected by hypertensive disorders such as pre-eclampsia. Her laboratory uses a translational approach with murine models and clinical samples to investigate the mechanisms and therapies, including exercise rehabilitation aimed at improving vascularization and, ultimately, preventing disease in women and their children. Research interests include assessing endothelial and microvascular changes in hypertensive pregnancies and investigating the effects of cardiac and obstetric rehabilitation interventions for these patients and their children.

Projects:
  1. Antiangiogenesis mechanisms in Preeclampsia and Fetal Programming.
  2. A human-derived three-dimensional placental vascular organoid for angiogenesis investigation.
  3. Sex-based differences in cardiac remodeling and programming of cardiomyopathy in offspring of preeclampsia
