Current research:

Our research program is focused in the area of diabetes and metabolism. Specifically, our lab is investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of glucose toxicity as it mediates the pathogenesis of the microvascular complications of diabetes using the kidney as a model. Current projects include studies of the cellular protein tyrosine kinase, Src, and the role of thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP) in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy.

Projects:
  1. Investigating the role and pathological signaling by Src family kinases in mediating diabetic nephropathy.
  2. Investigating the mechanisms and protein-protein interactions of TXNIP in promoting diabetic nephropathy.
  3. Investigating the role of TXNIP in regulating protein-thiol group oxidation in disease pathogenesis.
Research areas:
Bone/Adipose tissues
Endocrinology/ Diabetes
Renal diseases
