What is an Ignite Grant?
Ignites are mid-sized ($25,000 per year for up to two years) grants intended to help teams consisting of one or two Bieler School Jointly Appointed Faculty (JAF) and Associate Members to take projects to the next level. The goal of this grant is to create collaboration among our JAF and Associate Members to further develop the Bieler School thematic research areas. This unique grants allow a team or project at McGill to hire MSc or PhD students for two years.
One new project will be funded annually.
To apply, please upload the following materials as a single PDF file. Applications are due on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
- A two-page (max) proposal describing the project to be undertaken. This proposal should clearly indicate the potential for the grant to advance collaboration among JAF, leading to a paper or larger proposal. It must explain how the project builds centrally on the research programs of Bieler JAF, how it fits within one or more of the Bieler School thematic research areas, and how the project and activities will benefit both the team and the Bieler School in advancing its mission and positioning. All participants, including the Bieler JAF, and their position/affiliations, should be listed.
- Anticipated outcomes and products
- A brief budget describing how funds will be spent.
How are proposals reviewed?
Proposals will be reviewed by the Bieler School Committee and Director of the School.
Proposals will be evaluated based on: the potential to bring burgeoning collaborations to the next level, leading to new papers and proposals; fit with the Bieler School Research Themes; the level to which multiple Bieler JAF are substantively engaged.
