What is an Ignite Grant?
We welcome applications from teams of JAF, Faculty Lecturers or Bieler Associate members. The intent is to develop projects that create or advance coalitions drawing substantially on the research paths of Bieler JAF or Associates, rather than projects that are simply the extension of a single faculty member’s research program.
Ignites are mid-sized (up to $25,000 per year, renewable for one year) grants intended to help teams consisting of one or two Bieler School Jointly Appointed Faculty (JAF) and Associate Members to take projects to the next level. The goal of this grant is to create collaboration among our JAF and Associate Members to further develop the Bieler School thematic research areas.
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
the potential to bring burgeoning collaborations to the next level,
leading to new papers and proposals;
fit with the Bieler School Research Themes;
the level to which multiple Bieler JAF are substantively engaged.
To apply, please upload the following materials as a single PDF file.
- A two-page (max) proposal describing the project to be undertaken.
- This proposal should clearly indicate the potential for the grant to advance collaboration among JAF, leading to a paper or larger proposal. It must explain how the project builds centrally on the research programs of Bieler JAF, how it fits within one or more of the Bieler School thematic research areas, and how the project and activities will benefit both the team and the Bieler School in advancing its mission and positioning. All participants, including the Bieler JAF, and their position/affiliations, should be listed.
- Anticipated outcomes and products and how they can be used at the BSE
- A detailed budget describing how funds will be spent.
Applications are due Friday, October 30, 2026.
