The University in a Black Swan World
David W. Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College. He is a well known environmentalist and visionary and is active in many areas of environmental studies, including environmental education and environmental design.
In 1996, he organized the construction of one of the greenest buildings in North America, the Adam Joseph Lewis Center for Environmental Studies at Oberlin College. He is the founder and leader of the Oberlin Project, a joint effort of the city of Oberlin and Oberlin College to improve the resilience, prosperity, and sustainability of their community. The aim of this project is nothing less than to revitalize the local economy, eliminate carbon emissions, restore local agriculture, food supply and forestry, and create a new, sustainable base for economic and community development.
