Mlynarek, A. M., MD, CM (McG.), MSc (McG.), FRCSC

Alex M. Mlynarek MD, MSc, FRSCS, is an assistant professor at the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at McGill University. Dr. Mlynarek specializes in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, skin cancer as well as plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Prior to joining the faculty at McGill, he finished two fellowships in head and neck oncology and complex reconstruction. After graduating from the McGill Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery residency program in 2007, Dr. Mlynarek received a diploma from the American Society of Head and Neck Surgery, for completing a fellowship in advanced head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the University Alberta, under the guidance of Dr. H. Seikaly and Dr. J. Harris. He then spend the second year of his fellowship training at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, focusing on the management of skin cancer and local head and neck reconstruction, under the guidance of Dr. J. Chaplin, Dr. N. McIvor and Dr. M. Izzard.

Dr. Mlynarek has received numerous awards and scholarships including the prestigious RCPSC Trainship Grant from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the THANC (Thyroid, Head And Neck Cancer) foundation scholarship.

Dr. Mlynarek's research interests are functional outcomes and quality of life in head and neck cancer patients, as well as the discovery of biomarkers for head and neck cancer. He has published his research in numerous peer reviewed journals. He continues to attend and present his research at conferences locally, nationally and internationally.

He has a clinical practice at the Jewish General Hospital, the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
