“English-language Theatre in Quebec” is a SSHRC-funded research project on the history of this practice from 1930 to 2015 using archival research, oral histories, and literary analysis as key methods.
This fall, some of her research findings (and process) will take the stage at the Centaur Theatre and the Centre du Théâtre d’aujourd’hui, in the creation by Laurence Dauphinais, Cyclorama. October 13 – November 5th, 2022.
The ELTQ Story Mapping project collects anecdotes and details from theatre workers about English-language theatrical production and maps them to visualise the networks and centres of theatrical activity over time.
As part of her literary and historical analysis of plays in English by Quebec authors, Professor Hurley collaborated with Playwrights Workshop Montreal and the dramatist and translator Alexis Diamond to produce two series of staged-readings from this corpus in McGill’s Moyse Hall Theatre in 2020 and in 2022.
Her most recent publication in this area can be found in Gilbert David, Hervé Guay, Hélène Jacques, et Yves Jubinville’s Le théâtre contemporain au Québec. 1945-2015. Essai de synthèse historique et socio-esthétique, to which Prof Hurley contributed all the material on English-language drama and theatre.
