Fireside Chat: Global Humanities

Professor Tina Lu, Colonel John Trumbull Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale University and President of the Modern Language Association, will visit McGill University in September 2025.

She will deliver the Paul Hsiang Lecture on Chinese Poetry, entitled “The Poetics of the Vernacular,” on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 4:00 to 5:45 p.m. in the Billiard Room (3rd floor), Faculty Club, followed by a reception.

In addition, Professor Lu will take part in a public fireside chat, “Global Humanities,” on Thursday, September 18, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Senior Common Room, Birks Building (3520 Rue University). During this conversation, we will discuss the pressing challenges confronting the humanities in the increasingly complex global landscape, and reflect on how humanistic inquiry can foster meaningful and positive changes.
