Meet the 2025–2026 Critical Care Medicine Cohort

The 2025–2026 Critical Care Medicine cohort at McGill brings together a diverse and accomplished group of residents and fellows with backgrounds in Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, and General Internal Medicine. Trained across Canada and internationally, the cohort reflects the program’s breadth, academic strength, and commitment to developing the next generation of intensivists.

This year’s group has interests spanning critical care ultrasound, simulation-based education, quality improvement, trauma and neurocritical care, post-ICU follow-up, ethics, and clinical epidemiology. We look forward to supporting their growth and celebrating their contributions over the year ahead.
 


 

 

Abdulrahman Almizel

Dr. Abdulrahman Almizel is a first-year Critical Care Medicine fellow at McGill University. He completed Internal Medicine training at McGill after medical school in Saudi Arabia. His interests include critical care ultrasound and echocardiography.

 

 

 

Humaid Alkhateri

Dr. Humaid Alkhateri completed medical school at United Arab Emirates University and Emergency Medicine training at McGill University, where he is now pursuing Critical Care Medicine training. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with family and exploring Montreal.

 

Mohammed Alaithan

Dr. Mohammed Alaithan is a first-year Critical Care Medicine fellow at McGill University. He completed Internal Medicine training at McGill after earning medical degrees in Australia (Bachelor of Medical Sciences from the University of New South Wales) and the United Arab Emirates (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery). Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing football.

 

 

 

Reda Boushehri

Dr. Reda Boushehri is a first-year Critical Care Medicine fellow at McGill University from Kuwait. He completed Emergency Medicine residency training at McGill University after earning his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and golfing.

 

 

Alexander Calderone

Dr. Alexander Calderone is a PGY-5 resident in General Internal Medicine and Critical Care at McGill University. He completed medical school and a Bachelor's in Pharmacology at Université de Montréal. His Core Internal Medicine training was completed at McGill. Outside of medicine, he enjoys staying active, sharing great meals and meaningful conversations, and quoting 2000s movies.

 

 

Liang Chen

Dr. Liang Chen is a PGY-6 Critical Care Medicine fellow at McGill University with prior training in General Internal Medicine. He currently serves as co-chief medical resident of the Critical Care Medicine program. His interests include simulation-based medical education, critical care ultrasound, and quality improvement. During his time off he enjoys playing padel, golf, and the occasional arcade games.

 

Malek Dhane

Dr. Malek Dhane completed medical school at Université de Montréal and Anesthesiology residency training at McGill University. He is currently completing subspecialty training in Critical Care Medicine, with additional certification in targeted ultrasound. His interests include surgical critical care surgical critical care, with a particular focus on trauma and neurocritical care, as well as the integration of point-of-care ultrasound into perioperative and critical care practice.

 

 

Noha Elsherbini

Dr. Noha Elsherbini is a PGY-4 Anesthesia resident concurrently pursuing Critical Care Medicine fellowship training at McGill University, where she also completed medical school. Her interests include critical care and exploring Montreal’s food scene.

 

 

Michael Hnaris

Dr. Michael Hnaris is a PGY-6 Critical Care Medicine fellow at McGill University with prior training in General Internal Medicine, which he also completed at McGill University.

 

Joseph Hsheimi

Dr. Joseph Hsheimi is a PGY-6 Critical Care Medicine fellow at McGill University with prior training in Internal Medicine and General Internal Medicine. His interests include complex cardiovascular hemodynamics, cardiac ultrasound, and expanding point-of-care ultrasound use in the ICU to guide bedside patient care. He is currently pursuing further training in cardiac ultrasound and aims to contribute to its accessibility for daily practice.

 

 

Luca Melnychuk

Dr. Luca Melnychuk is a PGY-7 Critical Care Medicine fellow who also completed medical school, Core Internal Medicine training, and General Internal Medicine fellowship training at McGill University. Outside of medicine, he serves as Wellness Representative on the Residency Program Committee and enjoys fitness, yoga, and BBQ cooking.

 

 

Abdulla Mohamed

Dr. Abdulla Mohamed is a graduate of United Arab Emirates University currently training at McGill University in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. His interests include hands-on medicine and thoughtful clinical decision-making to ensure valuable changes. He also enjoys spending time with his family outside the hospital.

 

 

Nicolas Raymond

Dr. Nicolas Raymond is a PGY-5 Critical Care Medicine fellow who completed Core Internal Medicine training in Edmonton and medical school at McGill University. His interests include critical care ultrasound, post-ICU syndrome, and ICU follow-up care, and he enjoys bouldering, running, and cycling.

 

 

Mohammed Redha

Dr. Mohammed Redha is a PGY-4 Internal Medicine resident concurrently pursuing Critical Care Medicine fellowship training at McGill University. He is passionate about broad clinical exposure and hopes to bring his experience back to Kuwait as a dedicated intensivist.

 

 

Matthew Schulz

Dr. Matthew Schulz is a PGY-5 resident in General Internal Medicine and Critical Care at McGill University, where he also completed medical school and Internal Medicine residency. His interests include medical ethics and the intersection of philosophy and science.

 

Maureen Thivierge-Southidara

Dr. Maureen Thivierge-Southidara is a PGY7 Critical Care Medicine fellow and currently serves as co-chief medical resident. She completed medical school and a master’s degree in Health Professions Education at Université de Montréal, as well as General Internal Medicine training at Université Laval, and will pursue a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research at the University of Toronto. Her academic interests focus on clinical epidemiology and the effects of supportive care interventions on critical care outcomes.

 

Anas Wess

Dr. Anas Wess is a Royal College–certified General (University of Manitoba), Trauma, and Acute Care Surgeon (University of British Columbia) currently training in Critical Care Medicine at McGill University. He pursued medical training at the University of Aleppo, (Syria) and previously served as a combat field medic during the Syrian war. He is an active member of the Canadian Aviation for Critical Care Medical Evacuation in Quebec. His interests include aeromedical evacuation, disaster simulation, acute care medicine, and quality improvement.

 

Ziyu Xiao

Dr. Ziyu Xiao is a Critical Care Medicine resident at McGill University scheduled to graduate in 2027. He previously completed residency training in Anesthesiology. His academic interests include examining analgosedation interventions in the ICU. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec and on the Continuing Medical Education Committee of the Association des intensivistes du Québec.
