In anticipation of the transformation of the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex, some excavation work will be conducted on select areas of the lower west field adjacent to the McLennan and Redpath Library buildings. The McLennan-Redpath Library buildings are part of a designated heritage site. Standard protocol requires that McGill conduct an archeological excavation before starting any large-scale construction project.

Two major parallel infrastructure projects—a new Collections Centre and Fiat Lux will transform the quality of services and spaces the Library offers. Library staff members are preparing for the movement of collections, spaces, and services in advance of renovation and construction activities. Part of this process includes planning the movement of materials to the Collections Centre, which is currently under construction and scheduled to begin ingesting books in mid-2023 and be fully operational in early 2024.

Please note that a planned, sector-wide power outage will affect the McLennan-Redpath Library Complex on Friday, April 29 from 5:30am to 7:30am.
The sole source of lighting during this period will be emergency lighting in hallways and exit areas.
For safety reasons, McGill University security guards will escort Library users out of the McLennan-Redpath Complex before the shutdown is set to begin.
We regret any inconveniences this situation may cause.

As of Wednesday, December 1, the McGill community can take advantage of a new, heated, outdoor area.
Heaters in the tent located on the McLennan-Redpath terrace will provide McGill students, staff and faculty with a safe, warm, space to take a break, dine, study, and socialize.
Heaters will be operational Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM (excluding holidays).

Dear colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of Mr. Robert Hamilton, B. Arch., B. Sc. Arch., as Executive Director of the Fiat Lux Library Project. Mr. Hamilton begins his new role on September 3, 2019.

Please note that on Friday, July 20 from 7am to 3pm, the terrace facing lower field along the Redpath Library Building will be inaccessible due to tree removal.
The terrace will be closed from the north end (Redpath Museum) to the terrace garden.
Access to lower campus and the McLennan Library Building continues to be accessible from McTavish Street. Two security agents will be on site to redirect pedestrian traffic on McTavish street.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
