McGill Libraries Website Gets a Major Refresh on July 28

On July 28, the McGill Libraries website is going to undergo an extensive change. Most notably, the URL to our website will be updated to mcgill.ca/libraries to align with our rebranding to Libraries in Summer 2024. If you’ve bookmarked any favourite pages, be sure to update them once the new URLs go live. 

We will also be updating our menu structure based on user research testing completed over the past two years. This new menu better reflects the needs of our users and showcases our wonderful spaces and services.

McGill Libraries closed June 24 & July 1. Three locations open June 23 & June 30.

Please note that all McGill Libraries locations and service points, including online reference service will be closed on Tuesday, June 24 and Tuesday, July 1 (statutory holidays).

On Monday, June 23 and Monday, June 30, ONLY the Humanities & Social Sciences Library, Schulich Library and Marvin Duchow Music Library services and spaces will be available.

Macdonald Campus Seed Library opens February 24

On Monday, February 24, 2025 the Macdonald Campus Library will open up its Seed Library for online orders. The seed catalogue will be available to McGill students, faculty, and staff on opening day.

King Charles III Coronation Medal awarded to Dean Guylaine Beaudry and Anne-Marie Fournier, Supervisor at the McGill University Collections Centre

The McGill Libraries are delighted to announce that two colleagues, Dean Guylaine Beaudry and staff member Anne-Marie Fournier, were awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in December 2024. The honour highlights the exceptional contributions of Canadians, many of whom work behind the scenes, making a significant impact on their community, their province, and sometimes even at the national and international levels.

Dec. 18 | Water shutdown in McLennan Library Building 7:30 - 10:30 a.m.

To execute repairs, Facilities Management and Ancillary Services is planning a water shutdown on Wednesday, December 18 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., which will affect the McLennan Library Building only, including all its water fountains and washrooms.

Please use the water fountains, sinks, and washrooms located in the Redpath Library Building during this period.

Update | Canadian Union of Postal Workers strike ends; requests & deliveries resume gradually

December 17, 2024 update: 

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) strike has ended. The delivery of documents requested from other libraries will gradually resume. Additional delays are to be expected. Thank you for your understanding.

Temporary closure of Frank Dawson Adams campus-facing entrance affecting access to Schulich Library

Due to impact from the façade restoration underway on the Frank Dawson Adams Building (FDA), the campus facing entrance to the building will be closed on October 15 and October 16, 2024, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM both days, affecting access to the Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering.

Access to McGill Libraries on Lower Campus as of Monday, August 5

As outlined in the most recent update by the McGill University Emergency Operations Centre, as of Monday, August 5, Libraries in the lower campus area (and all libraries within the system) will open as per their regular operating hours and will be accessible without the need of a McGill ID card.

August 6 | Planned electrical shutdown for the McLennan-Redpath Complex and Islamic Studies Library

Facilities Management and Ancillary Services is planning an electrical shutdown on the morning of Tuesday, August 6, which will affect the McLennan-Redpath Complex and Islamic Studies Libraries BEFORE the locations open for the day.

The shut down is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00am and power should be back before opening. For all library opening hours, please see the Libraries hours page.

July 27 – August 4 | Access to McGill Libraries on Lower Campus

As outlined in the most recent update by the McGill University Emergency Operations Centre, from Saturday, July 27 to Sunday, August 4, Libraries in the lower campus area will open as per their regular operating hours, but will close no later than 5:30 p.m. on the weekend and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays. Opening hours for Lower Campus locations during this time period are as follows:
