The Organization for Human Brain Mapping, the largest international scientific society for neuroimaging-based brain research, has honoured Prof. Alan C. Evans with its Glass Brain Award

The award, presented to Evans at the 2019 OHBM congress in Rome, recognizes lifetime achievement in the use of brain mapping to make significant discoveries about the human brain.

The first round of the McGill-Western Collaboration Grant awards were announced yesterday, showcasing the unique research partnership between Western University’s BrainsCAN and McGill University’s Healthy Brains for Healthy Lives (HBHL) initiative. In the inaugural round,seven research teams, each co-led by a Western and McGill faculty member, have been awarded funding for their transformational research projects that aim to radically transform our understanding of the brain.

On March 4th, 2018, over 200 undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and researchers flocked to the University of Western Ontario to attend the 2nd Biennial Inspiring Young Women in STEM Conference. The conference focused on inspiring and supporting young women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) by providing the opportunity to network with and learn from established women in STEM fields.

Earlier this week, the first HBHL-SKILLSETS workshop was held. The workshop, entitled Increase Your Impact: Sharing neuroscience research with diverse audiences, was facilitated by Falisha Karpati (Program Officer, Healthy Brains for Healthy Lives) and John Van Heest (Communications Administrator, Teaching and Learning Services). Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from all around McGill joined us to learn about research dissemination methods, and making neuroscience content accessible and engaging for different audiences.

McGill University will launch an ambitious effort to advance understanding of the human brain and ease the burden of neurological and mental-health disorders, thanks to an $84 million, seven-year grant announced today under the federal government's Canada First Excellence Research Fund (CFREF).

The program, Healthy Brains for Healthy Lives, will build on McGill's leading position in neuroscience to make the university a global hub for brain research – one of the major frontiers for 21st century medicine.
