KIP - Macdonald Engineering news
From August 29 to September 12, we will be installing a new green roof as part of work to the roof at the Macdonald Engineering building. During this period, a boom truck will be stationed inside Macdonald's fenced-off construction area, facing James Square. To facilitate deliveries of materials to the jobsite, one lane of the Macdonald roadway will be closed. A carpet of plant seeds will be
The second floor offices and laboratories of the Workman wing are finished and back in regular use. The air conditioning is now in operation. Please note that it will take a few months to make adjustments to the HVAC system and that may cause temperature fluctuations.
An underground rainwater reservoir will be installed in the FDA Courtyard. Digging equipment and trucks to move out the soil will be at the work site. The courtyard will be closed during this time, but a special corridor for pedestrians will be in place in the event of emergency. Once the water retention tank has been installed and Macdonald renovation work has been completed, the courtyard

The new atrium's steel framework has been installed. The ground floor laboratories are under construction. Demolition work is underway on the 3rd and 4th floors, near McConnell. Unforeseen site conditions are delaying the completion of renovation until summer 2011. We are working closely with the contractor to complete the project as quickly as possible. We apologize for this delay.
In response to reports of dust in parts of the McConnell building, the air quality on every floor of McConnell has been tested and found to be free of asbestos. To minimize demolition dust in the McConnell building, the Macdonald renovation sites are being sealed with air-tight enclosures. We apologize for this recent inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
On December 3, 2010, Prime Minister Harper extended the deadline for completion of Knowledge Infrastructure Program projects to October 31, 2011. Work continues at an accelerated pace to complete all projects as close as possible to the original March 31, 2011 deadline. While unanticipated challenges will delay some McGill KIP projects, all McGill KIP projects will be completed by the new date
Contractors are doing their best to provide a comfortable work environment for all, but some unusual temperature variation will be unavoidable in areas served by temporary ventilation. During the fall "shoulder" period, temperatures vary and this presents challenges for heating/cooling systems, even more so for temporary systems. Your patience and understanding during this period is appreciated
The Benedek labs on the 5th floor are almost finished. Final completion is expected late October. Many sections of the Macdonald Building have been vacated for renovations. Building uses in areas of the Workman and Electrical Wings are also being moved out, so that contractors can accelerate renovations. Contractors are opening up ceilings for the new ventilation system.
