Lara Khoury, Ad. E., is a Full Professor at McGill University’s Faculty of Law and the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Liability, Health Governance, and Social Change (since 2024). She also serves as McGill’s Associate Vice-President (Research).
Working at the intersection of law, health, and science, Professor Khoury’s research examines how legal systems respond to modern risks and scientific uncertainty—particularly in comparative medical, public health, and environmental law, with a sustained focus on liability and causation. Her research engages both common law and civil law traditions and is grounded in comparative and transsystemic outlooks that connect doctrinal analysis to real-world governance challenges in health and environmental regulation. Her work is widely engaged by the legal community and has been cited by Canadian courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Professor Khoury co-convenes (with Professor Alana Klein) the McGill Research Group on Health and Law, an interdisciplinary group linking researchers and community stakeholders interested in advancing health law and policy. She is also a full member of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law, and an associate member of the Department of Equity, Ethics and Policy in McGill’s School of Population and Global Health. She is also a regular member of the Centre of Genomics and Policy.
Professor Khoury holds a DPhil and a BCL from the University of Oxford, and an LL.B. from Université de Sherbrooke; she has been a member of the Quebec Bar since 1995. Her contributions have been recognized with the Barreau du Québec’s Advocatus Emeritus (Ad. E.) distinction in 2019 and the Canadian Bar Association’s Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Law in 2023.
