Alternative pathways for Cl- and HCO3- that could be used to bypass defective CFTR

A family of membrane proteins called the SLC26A mediate anion transport are expressed in airway epithelia and are potential targets for therapeutics to treat CF and other mucoobstructive diseases of the airways. We want to understand Cl- by SLC26A9 and HCO3- transport by SLC26A4, which strongly upregulated during inflammation.

While this web page is accessible worldwide, McGill University is on land which has served and continues to serve as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. We acknowledge and thank the diverse Indigenous peoples whose footsteps mark this territory on which peoples of the world now gather. This land acknowledgement is shared as a starting point to provide context for further learning and action.
