Group Leader
My research program falls under the broad spectrum of Arctic sea ice research in a warming climate. I apply remote sensing and sea ice geophysical techniques to examine emergent atmosphere-sea ice-ocean properties and processes at critical scales. I seek to understand how snow-covered sea ice in the Arctic changes in the new climate regime and how it affects the retrieval of critical snow/sea ice geophysical parameters. I leverage advanced remote sensing technologies, including low-frequency surface-based and satellite-based radar systems, and geostatistical and machine learning methodologies to investigate Arctic sea ice across local and pan-Arctic scales.

My primary research involves incorporating numerical and AI methods into remote sensing (climate science). My recent work includes Arctic Sea Ice Classification using dual-frequency SAR and AI, including datasets from the NISAR (NASA-ISRO SAR) mission.

I am entering my final year as an Honours undergraduate student in Earth System Science, with a minor in GIS and Remote Sensing. As a student researcher with the Polar Remote Sensing Group, my current project uses high-resolution SAR data to estimate the freeze onset of first-year and multi-year ice in the Arctic. Through this work, I aim to contribute to a better understanding of seasonal ice dynamics under a changing climate.
I am an undergraduate student entering my third year at McGill University, studying Geography and Math. I am passionate about climate and atmospheric sciences and have long been fascinated by both the Arctic and Antarctic climate systems. My summer research focuses on using remote sensing data to detect the timing of Arctic sea ice melt pond drainage due to summer melt.
I'm a rising U2 student, performing a major in Sustainability, Science and Society along with a minor in Indigenous Studies. My interests include bible study, mixed martial arts, and exploring my home city of Toronto! I also have a strong affinity towards learning new languages, being the current Vice President of the McGill Sign Language club. During our project, my aim is to apply my skills in statistical analyses to enhance our team’s comprehension of extracted data from different sensors and types of sea ice.
