Seminar for graduate students: Peter Scriver

Monday, October 26, 2015 14:30
Macdonald Harrington Building Room 207, 815 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 0C2, CA

Dr. Peter Scriver is a Senior Lecturer in Architectural History and Theory, University of Adelaide, Australia. He will give a Seminar on his forthcoming book: India, Modern Architecture in History. The book provides an engaging account of how Indian architectural modernity began in the early twentieth century by examining both colonial and post-colonial aspects. The critical interpretation of India’s role in the history of Modern architecture is important, because of the great works of Le Corbusier, Constantinos A. Doxiadis and Louis I. Kahn in the sub-continent. However, Scriver’s new book also explores the role of  Indian Public Works, especially under colonial rule and after independence, challenging previous building traditions.
