Zoya Dare

Zoya Dare is pursuing a Master's degree in Art History under the supervision of Dr. Christine Ross. Her graduate research bridges Art History and Media Theory by examining our relationship with digital technologies as it is reflected, perpetuated, and challenged by contemporary digital art. With a general interest in art reception, her project works towards understanding how the ubiquity of digital media has changed the practice of viewing art, especially when the art itself embraces the digital medium. A central case study in this project is the work of American artist Ian Cheng whose digital worlds both simulate and refuse viewer engagement. This project is supported by awards from Media@McGill and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
