Biography: 

2010 Emeritus Professor

As Director of the McGill University Medical Physics Unit, 1991-2008, Ervin Podgorsak (FCCPM, DABMP, FAAPM, FACMP) headed both a leading clinical service and an academic program and led both the McGill medical physics graduate program and clinical residency program to be the first such Canadian programs to be internationally accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs. As an accomplished researcher, he built a strong research team at McGill. Dr. Podgorsak has been an outspoken voice for funding of health care in Québec and in Canada. Through active intervention with hospital and government officials, he was able to trigger significant improvements in operational and equipment funding for cancer centres in the province. He has been the recipient of numerous awards during his career including, as just one in four Canadians, the most prestigious award from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, the William D. Coolidge Award in 2006.
