Sports Safety: Game Changers in Cardiac Care of High-Performance Athletes

In the aftermath of Christian Eriksen’s devastating collapse from sudden cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener, the topic of sports safety will be addressed by Dr. Scott Delaney, head team physician from the Club de Foot Montreal and chief medical consultant for the National Hockey League Players’ Association and Cirque du Soleil. He will be joined by Dr. François de Champlain, and by Olympians Dr. Joannie Rochette and Jacqueline Simoneau,  to discuss comprehensive athlete care, from screening and evaluation to intervening on the sidelines. This panel discussion will be moderated by WRAH Student Committee members Alexa Ehlebracht and David Nassim.

Join us for this special Made by McGill alumni webcast, in partnership with the student-led McGill chapter of the World Restart a Heart (WRAH) campaign, in this special Bicentennial edition. In conversation with experts from McGill's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and a young survivor of cardiac arrest, we will learn the signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest and how basic knowledge in CPR has the potential to save thousands of lives.

Tech Talk: The Future of Emergency Cardiac Care

Dr. Steven Brooks, emergency physician, resuscitation scientist and creator of the PulsePoint mobile app, will be joined by Dr. Dave Williams, emergency physician and world-renowned astronaut, to discuss the latest advancements and improvements in bystander CPR and the availability of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Dr. Sheldon Cheskes and Dr. Farhan Bhanji will also join the conversation, which will be moderated by WRAH Student Committee member Carla Apostolova.

Join us on Wednesday, October 13 from 3-4 p.m. to learn about these innovative advancements, from crowdsourcing bystander resuscitation for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients to performing CPR in outer space!
