Current work examines extracellular vesicle release from human islets and the immune responses to these vesicles. Our lab also is working on stem-cell generated islets for use in human transplantation. A third, and related, area of work involves manipulation of the Th17 axis in the context of transplantation.

Dr. Steven Paraskevas is Professor of Surgery at McGill University and a Transplant Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH). He also serves as the Director of Pancreas and Islet Transplantation and Director of Research for General Surgery at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). Dr. Paraskevas’ clinical and research interests focus on developing cell-based therapeutic strategies for type 1 diabetes and improving immunotherapy to enhance graft survival in transplant recipients.
