It is both a privilege and a responsibility to launch McGill’s Strategic Research Plan at a time of profound global and institutional challenge.
Professor Dominique Bérubé
Vice-President (Research and Innovation)
Climate disruption, geopolitical instability, technological transformation, and growing inequality demand that universities respond with clarity, courage, and purpose. McGill has both the capacity to lead transformative research, and the proven excellence to drive impact.
McGill is open to the world, to collaboration, to innovation, and to co-creating solutions with communities, governments, and industry. Our researchers are rooted in Quebec’s rich cultural and linguistic landscape and connected to global networks that expand the reach and relevance of their work. Through research, we strengthen societies by cultivating leadership and shaping a dynamic, forward-looking knowledge and innovation ecosystem.
This Strategic Research Plan was created for and by the McGill research community. It reflects our shared vision, showcases our strengths, and identifies bold opportunities for impact. But realizing this ambition
demands action. By forging new partnerships, embracing innovative approaches, and seizing emerging opportunities, we will turn vision into momentum, and momentum into meaningful change.
I want to thank the many researchers, students, staff, and partners who contributed their insights and energy to this plan through consultations and working groups. The dedication of the Research and Innovation team has been invaluable in bringing this vision to life.
I am excited to embark on this journey with the research community. Together, we will ensure that McGill not only meets the toughest challenges of our time but also helps define what it means to be a thriving research university in the 21st century.
