Progress of the Study

The Iowa Flood Study recruited approximately 270 pregnant and postpartum women back in 2008. The study is now in the stage of testing children as they turn 4-years old. The 4-year assessments began at the beginning of 2012 and are expected to finish in the summer of 2013. The current assessment includes measures of children’s body dimensions, blood pressure, cognition, vocabulary, attentiveness, memory, coordination, and cortisol levels (through saliva), and measurements of mother’s blood pressure, vocabulary, and spatial abilities.

Please see the diagram below to follow through the different assessments already completed, and planned for the near future.

B – Biological measures

Q – Questionnaires

P – Phone interview

F – Face-to-face
