Speaker Bio:
Amélie Quesnel-Vallée holds the Canada Research Chair in Policies and Health Inequalities at McGill University, where she is a Full Professor with a joint appointment across the Faculties of Arts (Dept. of Sociology) and Medicine and Health Sciences (School of Population and Global Health, Dept. of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health). She is the founding Director of the McGill Observatory on Health and Social Services Reforms and a founding member of the McGill Center on Population Dynamics. She also founded CAnD3, an international consortium of 36 academic, government, private and non-profit organizations delivering training in support of evidence-based decision making.
Quesnel-Vallée’s research examines the contribution of policies to social inequalities in health over the life course and has been recognized through awards from professional associations including the American Sociological Association, the Population Association of America, and the American Public Health Association. She is a two-time Fulbright Foundation awardee, most recently of a Distinguished Chair (2020). She is the President of the Canadian Population Society and a past-President of the International Sociological Association’s Research Committee on the Sociology of Health. She has demonstrated experience and leadership in providing strategic advice to several organizations, notably the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, where she is Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance and a Member of the Executive Committee of the Governing Council. Committed to furthering public understanding of science, Quesnel-Vallée is frequently sought by media outlets such as National Public Radio, the New York Times and Business Week.

Biographie :
Amélie Quesnel-Vallée est titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada sur les politiques et les inégalités de santé à l'Université McGill, où elle est professeure titulaire avec une nomination conjointe à la Faculté des arts (Département de sociologie) et à la Faculté de médecine et des sciences de la santé (École de santé des populations et de santé mondiale, Département d'épidémiologie, de biostatistique et de santé au travail). Elle est directrice et fondatrice de l'Observatoire de McGill sur les réformes de la santé et des services sociaux ainsi que membre fondatrice du Centre de McGill sur la dynamique des populations. Elle a également fondé et dirige CAnD3, un consortium international regroupant 36 organisations universitaires, gouvernementales, privées et à but non lucratif qui offrent une formation à l'appui de la prise de décision fondée sur des données probantes.
Les recherches de Mme Quesnel-Vallée portent sur la contribution des politiques aux inégalités sociales en matière de santé au cours de la vie et ont été récompensées par des prix décernés par des associations professionnelles, notamment l'American Sociological Association, la Population Association of America et l'American Public Health Association. Elle a été deux fois lauréate de la Fondation Fulbright, la dernière fois pour une Distinguished Chair (2020). Elle est présidente de la Canadian Population Society et ancienne présidente du comité de recherche sur la sociologie de la santé de l'Association internationale de sociologie. Elle a démontré son expérience et son leadership en fournissant des conseils stratégiques à plusieurs organisations, notamment les Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada, où elle est présidente du comité permanent des finances et membre du comité exécutif du conseil d'administration.
