Summary Position Profile: Ombudsperson for Students

McGill University invites applications, nominations, and expressions of interest for the position of Ombudsperson for Students. This is a half-time (50%), non-renewable five-year appointment. The start date will be determined in due course.
About the Role
The Ombudsperson operates independently of the University’s formal structures, offering a confidential, impartial, and informal dispute resolution service to students seeking fair and equitable outcomes. The role also contributes to University policy development and promotes dialogue on student-related matters.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, empathy, and excellent communication skills;
- Be familiar with McGill’s structures, policies, and procedures;
- Have experience with conflict resolution or mediation, or be willing to undertake training;
- Navigate sensitive and confidential issues with discretion;
- Be fluent in both English and French.
The position is open to internal candidates, preferably from among McGill’s tenured academic staff.
