October 2, 2025

Dear Students,

We know everyone is eager to return to normal routines, and we share that hope. Both the FMSQ and FMOQ are in mediation with the government, but we do not have any confirmed information about what next week will look like.

Given the uncertainty, our UGME team is actively preparing for two possible scenarios for next week:

  • One in which the current pressure tactics are lifted
  • One in which the FMSQ pressure tactics remain in place, with the possibility of the FMOQ calling on their members to stop teaching and supervision of medical students (currently scheduled for October 4)

Scenario 1: If pressure tactics are lifted:

We will require at least 24 hours' notice before students can return to the clinical setting, to ensure proper orientation and preparation.

  • If an announcement is made tomorrow, we would resume training in the clinical setting on Monday.
  • If an announcement is made on the weekend, we would resume Monday or Tuesday, depending on when the announcement is made.
  • We will email you to let you know.

If measures are lifted, clinical rotations will resume according to the existing schedule in your calendars.

  • Our team is reviewing each Med-3 and Med-4 student’s situation to confirm whether clinical schedules for Period 4 have been received. We will be coordinating closely with department administrative staff as well and will follow up as needed.

Scenario 2: If pressure tactics continue:

  • You will receive an email tomorrow with contingency plans for the week of October 6.
  • The FMOQ currently plans to stop teaching and supervision of medical students on October 4. Please note that we may need to further adjust our contingency plans if the FMOQ’s tactics are delayed or changed after we send tomorrow’s email.

Please keep a close eye on your inbox tomorrow for updates. We understand how difficult this uncertainty is and truly appreciate your continued flexibility and patience. Thank you for staying engaged and adaptable during this time.

Thank you,

The UGME Team
