Although the Sylvan Adams Sports Science Institute (SASSI) itself has only launched in August 2022, students have been receiving funding for their research since 2020 as a preliminary phase prior to establishing the Institute. SASSI supports four students annually through its sports science student fellowship competition: Master's (2), Ph.D. (1), and post-doctoral (1) with funding enabling students to conduct in-depth sports science projects within their research fields. These projects aim to improve sport performance by answering research questions that arise in the sporting community.
- Two (2) incoming Master’s students; $17,500 CAD/year for 2 years
- One (1) incoming Doctoral student; $30,000 CAD/year for 3 years
- One (1) Post-Doctoral fellowship; $50,000 CAD/year for 2 years
Our 2023 student fellowship competition will open December 1st, 2022. The submission deadline is February 15th, 2023. To apply, the student must have a pending offer of acceptance from McGill's Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, or currently be supervised by one of our full-time SASSI researchers at McGill University. Students who are not accepted to study at McGill University are not eligible to receive funding. Projects must aim to improve sport performance, with a particular interest in endurance sports. The application criteria, and instructions for submission will be posted in Fall 2022.
