RISE-UP for EBV research - Logo

EBV infects more than 90% of people worldwide. It is the virus that causes infectious mononucleosis (commonly known as mono), primarily among individuals infected during adolescence or early adulthood. EBV is also associated with long-term health conditions, including multiple sclerosis, Hodgkin lymphoma, nasopharyngeal cancer, and gastric carcinoma. To reduce the burden of mono and potentially mitigate long-term complications, pharmaceutical companies and government organizations are trying to develop a vaccine against EBV. In support of these endeavors, a multi-country observational study is being launched to assess the prevalence of EBV infection among youth and the rate at which young people catch EBV and develop mono. This study includes Canada, the U.S., Denmark, Sweden, and Australia.

Why participate?

  • Make a difference: Students will contribute directly to meaningful research that may shape the future of medicine.
  • Engage in science: This is an opportunity for young people to experience public health research first-hand.
