General Overview
The Department is equipped with two 1.5 Tesla Units and one 3 Tesla Unit MRIs (two of these units are largely used for research), a bi-plane neuroangiographic room with Rotational 3D capability, one fluoroscopy room, one multislice CT scanner, a portable multislice CT scanner, a Color Doppler unit and plain film unit.
The Montreal Neurological Hospital and Institute is a major tertiary and quaternary referral center for brain tumors, epilepsy, vascular lesions and degenerative diseases. The program benefits from the close collaboration with 13 neurosurgeons and over 20 neurologists at the Montreal Neurological Hospital and Institute.
The BIC (Brain Imaging Center,) offers a variety of basic and clinical research opportunities and a PET scanner.
The candidates for the positions must have completed their specialty in Diagnostic Radiology and they want to improve their knowledge of Diagnostic Neuroradiology.

Objectives/Guidelines
The following guidelines are designed to clarify the fellow’s job description.
The duties described are geared towards enriching the fellow’s own experience and achievement and optimizing the function of the department. The Diagnostic Neuroradiology fellowship position does not in any way negatively impact on resident training, by actually it enhances their exposure to neuroradiology with discussion, case presentation and teaching sessions.
Workload
The Diagnostic Neuroradiology fellowship is dedicated to imaging of the brain and spine including all modalities. At the conclusion of the training the fellow should be able to function autonomously in interpretation of CT, MRI and Doppler, as well as performing diagnostic angiography, lumbar puncture and occasional myelography. S/He will also function as a consultant to neurosurgeons and neurologists.
On Call
The fellow is on home- call one week out of two. The fellow is on call as 1st call with attending staff backup. The staff must be consulted prior to issue preliminary report (whenever deemed necessary) or prior to procedures.
Teaching and academic activities
The fellow participates actively in the teaching and academic activity of the department. Attendance at Neurosurgery Rounds, Cerebro-Vascular Rounds and Thursday Neuroradiology Rounds is mandatory. Attendance at the other “Neuro” rounds at the MNH and JGH is possible if no conflict exist with the work schedule; permission must be obtained to attend these rounds.
The fellow is actively invited to participate in research projects, even those in conjunction with the Brain Imaging Center (BIC). Protected time may be granted depending on the nature of the project. The project must be discussed and approved in advance by the fellowship director.
The fellow must participate in teaching activities with the medical students and residents rotating in the department.
Work Schedule
The approximately working hours are from 8:00 am to 6:00 PM.

Vacations: 20 working days
Conferences: 10 working days.
Expected daily case load (Diagnostic Neuroradiology)
CT: 10 cases
MRI: 5-6 cases
Diagnostic angiogram: 1case
Doppler 3-4 cases
Evaluation
The fellow is evaluated on a daily basis by the attending staff
A formal written evaluation is completed every 6 months, using the CanMEDS roles scheme. The fellow will meet the Fellowship director of his section for direct feedback.
