The JBSCE Subcommittee on Queer People is established under the authority of, and is accountable to the Joint Board-Senate Committee on Equity (JBSCE). It shall function as stipulated in these terms of reference.
The JBSCE Subcommittee on Queer People shall minimally consist of 5 to 10 members, selected as follows.
Chair, Elected member of the Academic or Support Staff (two-year commitment)
Vice-Chair, Elected member of the Academic or Support Staff (two-year commitment)
Queer McGill Student Representative - ex officio
Queer Grad Club Student Representative - ex officio
SEDE Equity Advisor - ex officio
Five members-at-large from the McGill community.
The Chair and Vice-Chair of the JBSCE Subcommittee on Queer People shall be appointed by Joint Board-Senate Committee on Equity (JBSCE), normally, on the recommendation of the JBSCE Subcommittee on Queer People.

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the JBSCE Subcommittee on Queer People shall advocate for representation, inclusion and support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirited, intersex, asexual and queer students, staff and academic personnel at McGill University with respect to academic and non-academic life on campus.
The JBSCE Subcommittee on Queer People welcomes allies and community members who are interested in collaborating on specific equity initiatives.
3) General Provisions
Frequency of meetings
The JBSCE Subcommittee on Queer People shall meet eight times (typically once a month) during the regular school year with additional meetings scheduled as needed.
The goals and expectations are to:
report to the JBSCE on a regular basis, and within a reasonable time following a Subcommittee meeting;
review the subcommittee terms of reference minimally once every five years and recommend any changes to the JBSCE;
produce an annual report of activities and policy work for the Chair of the JBSCE and the JBSCE;
provide recommendations to the JBSCE on university policy concerning 2SLGBTQ+ academics, staff and students;
maintain a forum for McGill academics, staff and students to discuss and propose solutions to 2SLGBTQ+ issues in academic and non-academic life at McGill University.
4) Member Terms and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Chair and Vice-Chair
The Chair and the Vice-Chair will:
set meeting dates, book meeting rooms and circulate agendas;
ensure that diverse experiences and perspectives of all members are treated respectfully;
report on activities and events to the JBSCE Chair and the JBSCE annually.
The Vice-Chair, in their second year, will take over as Chair of the Subcommittee and, when necessary, will step in as Acting-Chair in the absence of the Chair. This role is a two-year commitment.
Role of Subcommittee Members
Subcommittee members should be prepared to share their expertise and judgment on planned activities.
Members are expected to contribute by:
identifying opportunities for 2SLGBTQ+ engagement on campus and in our greater community;
making informed recommendations on the direction and activities of the subcommittee;
sharing knowledge on 2SLGBTQ+ activities and issues with the university and greater community;
contributing to policy revisions and recommendations;
participating in any additional Queer Subcommittee projects.
