Dear members of the McGill community,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to a new academic year after what I hope was a restful and memorable summer. Like many of you, I am so delighted to kick off my first full year at McGill and to experience the beloved activities and traditions that define the McGill experience.
As we transition out of the summer months and prepare for a bustling Fall term, we have a prime opportunity to recommit ourselves to McGill’s mission with renewed energy and a refreshed perspective. This moment invites each of us to begin writing a new chapter for our great University – one that envisages what McGill can be and what we aspire to achieve over the next 25 years.
With our sights set on the long term, McGill’s unique positioning as a locally anchored university of global pre-eminence will continue to shape our future directions. So too will major initiatives such as the New Vic Project, which is poised to expand McGill’s academic clout while making vital progress towards addressing sustainability and climate change.
Over the next year, we will, together, embark on an institution-wide exercise to define further our shared aspirations and vision for McGill 2050. I look forward to communicating more details about this exercise with you soon.
In the meantime, I want to thank the McGill community for their generosity in welcoming me into my role since April. I look forward to many more opportunities, both planned and spontaneous, to meet and exchange with you over the next year. Until then, I wish you a most enriching and successful academic year ahead!
Sincerely,
Professor Deep Saini
