Jade LaFontaine Wins the 2022 ACLA/CAAL Indigenous Graduate Student Award

Jade LaFontaine, master's student in Second Language Education and lecturer at McGill University, is the winner of the prestigious Indigenous Graduate Student Award of the Canadian Association of Applied Linguistics (CAAL/ACLA) conference. This important award recognizes excellence in graduate student research submitted to the 2022 CAAL/ACLA conference.

Her presentation, Looking Forward: Tools Designed Specifically for Indigenous Language Instruction, covers the most important results of Jade's MA thesis research, which includes how teachers feel about online tools and what they would like to see from digital tools for their language instruction in the future.

"This award represents the dedication I have had since my undergrad to committing my time and effort wherever I can to ensure the vitality of our ancestral languages. Receiving it is an amazing opportunity and reassures me that I am doing good work for the field of language revitalization," said Jade LaFointaine.

Jade LaFointaine's research is being co-supervised by Drs. Angelica Galante and Mela Sarkar. If you are attending the conference, her presentation is on May 14 (Saturday), 3:30pm-4:00pm, online.
