The Department of Pathology held its annual Finlayson Research Day on Friday June 14th. This year, we were honoured to have Dr. Sylvia Asa travel for the occasion as our Keynote Speaker.
The day began with an interactive educative session at the MUHC-Glen site, where Dr. Asa and our residents discussed interesting cases at a multi-head microscope. The afternoon was dedicated to the celebration of ‘Science in Pathology’. Dr. Asa spearheaded the scientific program with an inspired talk titled, “Looking beyond the microscope to predict the future”. Next, Dr. Basile Tessier-Cloutier, a Clinician-Scientist in our department and FRQS Clinical Research Scholar Award Recipient, gave a lecture on understanding malignant proliferations with morphological dedifferentiation. This was followed by two ‘mini symposia’ to showcase research being conducted by our residents and our graduate students. Ten trainees in total gave short talks and each presentation was followed by thoughtful discourse. The day ended with an evening dinner reception and awards ceremony at the Faculty Club on McGill’s downtown campus. We also bid farewell to our graduating residents and recognized graduate students who successfully completed their theses/degrees in the last year.
