Each year CURAC recognizes an exceptional contribution and/or achievement by university or college retirees at the local member association level. This Tribute Award is given at the reception held at annual conferences. We are honoured to report that Robert D. Stanley, Treasurer of the McGill University Retiree Association (MURA) was granted this award at the Annual CURAC Conference that was held at the University of Waterloo, May 22-24, 2024. He was presented with this award at the MURA AGM that was held on June 12, 2024.
Nomination
Robert D. Stanley joined MURA upon retirement and was recruited in 2015 as its treasurer. His role as treasurer is to collect the financial contributions from the partner unions and associations with whom MURA has agreements, as well as the annual fees from individual members. As it is MURA’S policy that most revenues offer direct benefits the members, Bob ensures that the association keeps a good equilibrium between revenues and expenses to fully realize its program and services to members. Further, Bob oversees the annual financial review carried out by professional accounting firms. His financial annual reports at the AGM are clear, concise, precise, and most appreciated by the membership at large.
Every organization needs a forward-looking backstop like Bob Stanley, someone who is keen to encourage the association to take on new challenges and develop a full program of activities, while at the same time mindful of the practical steps that are needed to move forward, and the financial costs involved. For an unprecedented three terms (8 years), Bob’s many contributions to MURA, including his sustained relationship with partner associations and unions, has ensured a sound organizational stewardship and financial stability. The members of MURA are proud to submit the nomination of Robert D. Stanley for CURAC Tribute Award.
