Dr. Bluma Brenner

Dr. Bluma Brenner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery and adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Dr. Brenner is internationally recognized for her research identifying and characterizing signature genetic pathways leading to HIV-1 antiretroviral drug resistance. Her collaborative work with the late Mark Wainberg for three decades has contributed to 151 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her most prominent work has been in the field of molecular epidemiology using phylogenetics to model HIV transmission dynamics and inform prevention efforts, including the creation of the SPOT rapid testing site in Montreal. Dr. Brenner is a member of the Services and Outreach Committee McGill School of Population and Global Health. Dr. Brenner supervises MSc and PhD students in the Dept. of Microbiology & Immunology. She participates in teaching graduate course EXMD632 and undergraduate course MIMM301.
