Policies

To obtain permission to use the instruments:

  • ALL New Users* have to contact the operational manager in order to receive authorization, facility's operational procedures and training.
  • Authorization and Access will be granted once New Users have completed the Instrument Request Form: User profile, Billing information (FOAPAL # for McGill researchers or PO#  with a hard copy  for external users) and a brief description of the instrument application.
  • Training is mandatory for each instrument.
  • Users are not allowed to train anyone.
  • For now, scheduling Calendar is available in paper format next to each instrument and allows individual users to independently schedule time of usage.
  • ONLY Users with authorization will be allowed to use the instruments after hours.
  • Overbooking won’t be accepted.  The facility manager reserves the right to decide user priority.
  • Users will be charged per minute of usage and invoices will be rounded to the 15 minutes for the entire invoicing period (should be every 3 months).
  • Cancellation should be done at least 24 hours in advance. Charges will be applied if cancellation is not done and fees will be charged for the entire booking.
  • Samples which are known to contain Biohazards Level 2 and above, such as pathogens which can cause disease in humans or animals won’t be accepted in the Facility.
  • Sign up the log sheet after each session (excel sheet on each desktop) with: User full name and Principal Investigator full name, Department/institution/or room #, Date and Starting and Finishing time.
  • Users have to contact the staff of the facility to inform any instrument problems or for assistance.
  • User privileges could be re-examined by the Facility manager in the case of misconduct or non-payment of the fees.

 To request HTS service:

  • Investigators interested in performing a screen are welcome to follow the guidelines, fill out the Application Form and contact us for further details
  • McGill University Life Sciences Complex HTS Advisory Committee will review all HTS applications in consultation with the investigators involved.
  • Once a HTS application is approved, the investigator will be notified of the starting date of the screen and its probable duration, and will have to provide Billing information (FOAPAL# for McGill researchers or PO# with a hard copy for non-McGill users).
  • The HTS staff is responsible for the management of all the libraries, including the handling and transfer from library plates into assays plate, for the operating and maintaining of the robotics and readers required during a HTS process.
  • The HTS staff can provide screeners with training in the use of some equipment such as plate readers.
  • It is our philosophy that post-doctoral fellows or graduate students will work together with the HTS staff in the execution of their particular screen.  Part of our mandate is to also train students.

*This rule applies also to new users from laboratories which are using or have already used the equipment in the past
