We are delighted to welcome you to this new edition of the Institute of Jurilinguistics, where experts and enthusiasts come together to explore the connections between law and language. Join us for a stimulating program of discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities.

The circulation of Western legal models tends to erase Indigenous legal traditions. While bijuralism has allowed for the coexistence—not always easy—of common law and civil law in French and English, the full recognition of Indigenous legal traditions raises challenges of a different kind. These challenges—namely linguistic ones—require the attention of legislative drafters, translators, and jurilinguists. How can we continue to build bridges between legal traditions while avoiding the pitfalls of assimilation, appropriation, and hierarchy?
