Trembling aspen is found far north in Canada. Its bright green leaves are a harbinger of the summer, as they come out much earlier than other broadleaved trees. Although it does not get very big, trembling aspen is very good at re-sprouting from its roots, and adaptation it has for re-growing after fires. The same individual may live for a very long time, and some ‘trees’ are more like forests, such as the famous individual Pando, which has been estimated to be many tens of thousands of years old. The leaves are rounded and have fine teeth. The flattened leaf-stalks make the leaves tremble in the wind.
