About the competition

New in 2017, the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers encourages the creation of new Canadian chamber music by up-and-coming composers.

The competition recognizes works for chamber music formations, including piano, that have the potential to engage a wide audience and become part of the standard repertoire.

Thierry Tidrow was the grand prize winner of the inaugural edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers.

2018 Finalists

Canadian composers Ashkan Behzadi, Taylor Brook, Christopher Goddard, Alison Yun-Fei Jiang and Thierry Tidrow competed in the GSC's final round.

The Jury

Works will be judged by an international jury made up of composers, performers and concert-goers, chaired by the Dean of the Schulich School of Music of McGill University.
