In order to produce your own research, you will have to engage with the research of others. Reading and synthesizing scholarly sources, however, can be intimidating and overwhelming. This workshop is designed to help graduate students learn practical ways to effectively engage with scholarly writing.
Participate in the workshop and you will:
- Learn strategies for understanding and evaluating scholarly sources
- Develop tools for understanding relationships between different sources
- Practice articulating connections between sources in your own writing
You should come to the workshop with:
- A hard copy or electronic version of 2 outside sources (articles, book chapters, etc.) that you are currently using in your research.
This workshop will be led by Mary Towers, a PhD candidate in English, who teaches writing to undergraduates and graduate students at the McGill Writing Centre.
The workshop will be held on McGill's downtown campus on Monday, October 7th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Registrants will receive the workshop location in a confirmation email.
